Shayestaganj OC, four other policemen closed for taking bribe

The office-in-charge (OC) and four other policemen of Shayestaganj Police Station have been closed on charges of releasing a man after taking bribe from him during his detention in Habiganj.

OC Mojammel Hossain, a sub-inspector and three constables were closed from the police station and attached to the district's police lines, Anwar Hossain, additional superintendent of Habiganj police, told our Moulvibazar correspondent.

Habiganj Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ullah took the action against them as the allegation of taking bribe from a detained man has been proven primarily, Anwar said.

A three-member committee was also formed to investigate the allegation and has been asked to submit the report by today.

Anwar added that the deputy inspector general and Habiganj SP would take further action after receiving the probe report.

A sub-inspector and three constables from Shyestaganj Police Station detained Lutfar Rahman, manager of RFL's Best Buy, from a railcrossing checkpost in Shayestaganj on September 14.

After five hours of taking him into police custody, OC Mozammel took bribe from him and released him, the police official said.

Later, Lutfar submitted a written complaint to the SP and the allegation has been proven primarily, additional superintendent Anwar added.
