BUBT holds seminar on public money

A seminar on "Public Financial Management: Panacea for Good Governance" was organised at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) on December 17, 2019. Department of Accounting of BUBT organised the seminar to celebrate its Accounting Day 2019. Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, 12th Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh spoke as the chief guest. Explaining government accounting system, he said that as public accounting domain is everybody's domain, we should know how government money is flowing. He also emphasised that auditors should focus on the purpose of a project when they approve an audit report.

Prof. Dr. Shafique Ahmed Siddique, Chairman, BUBT Trust also spoke as the special guest while Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, VC, BUBT was the session chair. Dr. M. Harunur Rashid, former Professor, Dept. of Accounting & Information Systems, University of Dhaka presented the keynote paper. Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, Faculty of Business and of Social Sciences delivered the welcome speech. Distinguished guests, Treasurer, Deans of different faculties, Research Director, Student Affairs Advisor, Senior Professors, Registrar, Controller of Exams, Joint Registrar, Proctor, Teachers and students of the Dept. of Accounting were present in the seminar. 

 

EBL launches short video film contest "Empowering Women"

Women make up 40 percent of the world's workforce. However, women face multifarious challenges every day, from gender discrimination and unequal pay to lack of access to finance. Despite suffering, women all over the world still overcome those challenges with grace and dignity. Empowering women to participate fully in economic life across all sectors is essential, not just for women but for sustainable development and stronger economies.

To shed light on their struggles and challenges and to create awareness about the importance of empowering women, EBL Women Banking has initiated a short video film contest titled "Empowering Women". If you have the flair for making short videos, make your 2-minute film and send it to ebl.womenbanking@gmail.com starting before February 29, 2020. The top 3 winners have the chance to win BDT 50,000, BDT 25,000, and BDT 15,000 respectively. Students across the country can participate. 

Averroes Int'l School wins Best Chain School of the Year 2019

Averroes International School has been awarded the Best Chain School of the Year 2019 on December 16.

The event took place in Amity University, Dubai where educators and government dignitaries from over 50 countries were present. The award was received by the Chairman of the school Khan Mohammad Aktaruzzaman. The CEO & Head of Averroes International School Mohammad Anisur Rahaman was invited as a speaker to the event. He spoke about the implementation, importance and significance of Inclusive Education, concluding that inclusion is a right and not a privilege for a selected few.

International School Awards (ISA) is one of the most reliable brands in educational award in the world. It has spent years exploring and mastering the revolutionary techniques of making "education better". In past years, ISA had thousands of attendees from education sectors. DIU holds panel discussion on Applied Career Placement Program for graduating students

Human Resource Development Institute (HRDI) of Daffodil International University (DIU) organised a panel discussion on ACPP - Applied Career Placement Program for graduating students of Bangladesh at 71 Milonayoton of the university on December 17, 2019. Booshra Ahmed, Senior Vice President, Bank of America and Faculty, MBA & Data Science Program, University of North Carolina Charlotte, presented her developed program model "ACCP".

Presided over by Ejajur Rahman Sajal, Deputy Director, HRDI, DIU, the panel discussants were Md. Anowar Habib Kazal, Senior Assistant Director (PR) and Shamsuddoha, Assistant Director of Career Development Center. Nizamul Haque, Sr. Staff Reporter, The Daily Ittefaq; Shariful Haque Sumon, Sr. Staff Reporter, The Daily Kaler Kantha; Rashed Ahmed, Staff Correspondent, The New Age; Saif Sujon, Senior Staff Reporter, The Daily Bonik Barta; Khalilur Rahman, Editor, Education Watch;  Rashed Al Ruhani, Senior Staff Reporter, The Daily Desh Rupantor; Asif Hasan Sami, Acting Editor, bdsangbad.com, and other distinguished journalists were present.

Booshra Ahmed presented on ACPP at the beginning of the discussion. In her presentation she pointed out that the unemployment rate is rapidly increasing in Bangladesh. She pointed out that there is a gap between university course curricula and industry requirements. She believes that ACPP will help Bangladeshi graduate's job placement. 

NSU YEF organises EconProdigy 5.0

North South University Young Economists' Forum (YEF) organised the grand finale of their flagship event EconProdigy 5.0 on December 18, 2019 at North South University premises. EconProdigy is the first and largest policy making competition in the country.

The title sponsor of the fifth iteration, EconProdigy 5.0, was LankaBangla Finance. The event also had Seagull Hotel as the Hospitality Partner and Turkish Airlines as Travel Partner.

The event was graced by Dr. Shahjahan Mahmood, Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Comissions (BTRC) as chief guest and Khwaja Shahriar, Managing Director and CEO of LankaBangla Finance as special guest.

The total prize pool of the competition was BDT 3.5 lakh. The winning team also won round trip flight tickets to Turkey. The top three teams bagged a 3 days and 2 nights stay at the Seagull Hotel in Cox's Bazar. Furthermore, all teams that qualified for the second phase were awarded with certificates.

A total of 163 teams registered for the competition. The teams went through three gruelling rounds: Online Round, Presentonomics, and Cross Talk. The top six teams made it to the grand finale. Team TG TG KPI from North South University became the champions of EconProdigy 5.0. The first runner-up was team Threadbare from Bangladesh University of Professionals and the second runner-up was team Undisputed from North South University.
