Bangladeshi student excels in China Aero Modeling Design Challenge

Bangladeshi student BM Afzalul Haque achieved first runner-up position at China Aero Modeling Design Challenge 2019 held in Zhejiang province. He is a final-year undergraduate student at Nanjing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics (NUAA). Afzal, with his team, received the award in "ground reconnaissance and strike" category. He is the first international student from his university who has achieved such prestigious national-level award. His major is Aircraft Design & Engineering. Afzal is currently working on two projects in China: Long Endurance UAV system using 4G data link, and Aerodynamic Performance Simulation and Experimental Study of Flexible Flapping Wing".

For his excellence, Nanjing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics nominated him for scholarship for the year 2020 by China Scholarship Council. He was awarded as top active student for the last two years.

He completed SSC from Collegiate School, Chittagong and HSC from Chittagong City College. His father Md. Fazlul Haque is a government official at City Special Branch, Chittagong Metropolitan Police, Chittagong and his mother Hanufa Khatun is a homemaker. 

IDP Bangladesh hosts multi-destination education fair

IDP Bangladesh hosted their signature multi-destination education fair in The Westin Dhaka on January 25, 2020.

Corinne Petrisor, Counselor & Senior Trade Commissioner of Canadian High Commission to Bangladesh inaugurated the event, congratulating IDP Bangladesh for ensuring such a large number of Canadian universities for this fair. Along with her, Ravi Chandran, Country Director and Mosharraf Khan, Country Manager of IDP Bangladesh were also present during the occasion.

With top Russell Group universities from UK and the best public universities of Canada and USA participating, this was the biggest conglomerate of high-ranking universities under one roof. Students who were interested in undergraduate, postgraduate or even PhD degrees overseas met the university representatives directly to assess their academic documents and applied for placements. Those with good academic record were also offered merit-based scholarships. The event was free for all to attend.

IDP is a global student placement organisation with 140 offices worldwide, operating since 1969. IDP is also one of the co-owners of IELTS worldwide.  

SUB introduces lecture series on Industry-Academia Linkage Development

State University of Bangladesh (SUB) introduced a lecture series on Industry-Academia Linkage Developmentfrom November 2019. The main objective of arranging this lecture series is to establish active linkage between industry and academia with the ultimate aim to prepare SUB students with practical skills and knowledge required by the job market.

The first programme was held on November 19, 2019 with M. Anis Ud Dowla, Chairman, ACI Limited. The title of the sub-topic was "Career Challenges for Educated Youths". The second programme under the lecture series was arranged with Abdul Matlub Ahmed, Chairman, Nitol-Niloy Group, President, India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry; and former President, Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI).

Acting on the recommendations received from the last two programmes under Industry-Academia Linage DevelopmentLecture Series, SUB has already started to modify and update its curriculum. The first attempt has been made with the Faculty of Business Studies. The concerned Faculty members sat with M. Anis Ud Dowla on January 14, 2020 to have a detailed consultation to upgrade the existing curriculum of that Faculty.

IUB introduces Bilquis-Saifuddin Scholarship

Through a ceremony, for the first time in Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), a students' scholarship has been endowed and introduced known as "Bilquis-Saifuddin Scholarship".

Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury, former Chairman, BOT of IUB and his family members graciously bestowed this scholarship by the name of his parents Bilquis Chowdhury and Saifuddin Ahmed Chowdhury. On this occasion, a ceremony was held at University Trustee Lounge. Prof. Milan Pagon, VC (Acting) delivered his opening remarks while the Chairman of BOT, IUB, Trustee A Matin Chowdhury appreciated and thanked Rashed Chowdhury and his family wholeheartedly for endowing and introducing this new scholarship for IUB students. On behalf of his family, Rashed Chowdhury stated that this has been one of their glorious moments in life to introduce such a scholarship with the objective of creating quality humans with excellent education and researches.

Family members of Rashed Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion. Later, he handed over the cheque of Bilquis-Saifuddin Scholarship to A Matin Chowdhury. Abdul Hai Sarker, Chairman, ESTCDT and other Trustees of IUB, Deans, senior members of faculties and administration were present in this event. 

EDU organises Placement Day 2020

A daylong "Placement Day 2020" was organised by East Delta University (EDU) with the participation of 3,000 job-seeking youths and 30 employers. Various employers also took direct written and oral examinations of more than 300 applicants. 

The first-ever job fair organised by a Chattogram university was held on January 26, 2020 at EDU campus, in collaboration with Seth Properties and KSRM.

The purpose of this programme is to bring 30 national and multinational companies operating in Bangladesh under one roof and help establish direct communication between the employers and the prospects. Apart from this, there is also day-long seminar and workshops on various aspects of career formation.

The keynote speaker was Kazi Monirul Kabir, former Country Manager of Google. Special guest was Co-founder of Zunoks Consulting and former Head of People Affairs at Robi, Matiul Islam Nowshad. The guest of honour was founder Vice Chairman Sayeed Al Noman and the chief guest was VC Prof. M. Sekandar Khan.

The main participants of the program were Seth Properties, KSRM, Terracotta, BSRM, MGH, Grameenphone, Pacific Jeans, Robi, Confidence Cement, Epic Properties, Elite Paint, The City Bank Ltd, Kenpark & Regency, Frobel Academy, P2P, Ranks FC Properties, Midas Safety, CPDL, Vivo, Akash DTH (Beximco Group), MAMATA, IDP, Talent Management, BYLC and Leads Bangladesh. 

CIDER Int'l School hosts inter school quiz competition

CIDER International School Cambridge Curriculum Primary Section organised an inter school quiz competition for the first time on January 23, 2020 at the school auditorium. There were eight teams from renowned schools of the city namely Bangladesh Elementary School, Chittagong Grammar School, Frobel Academy, International Hope School, Sir Maurice Brown International School, and CIDER International School (Cambridge & National Curriculum). Principal of CIDER Gyanesh Chandra Tripathi presided over the programme while Vice Principal Neeti Tripathi gave away the vote of thanks. Chairman Nader Khan was also present to enjoy the event. Quizmaster Alexious Serrao conducted the full event. Sir Maurice Brown International School became champions while CIDER International School Cambridge Primary became runners-up
