General knowledge excitement in Match 2 of The Daily Star GENIUS

The Daily Star Genius powered by Walton Smart Fridge, the online inter-school quiz competition, entered its second week with Match 2 between Academia, Dhanmondi Tutorial (DT), and Heed International School. Students from each school battled one another using their general knowledge, answering questions about the world, contemporary issues and Bangladesh among other topics.

Nahiyan Chowdhury from DT emerged victorious after a gruelling hour of competition, with Riaz Ahmed from Heed International coming in second, and Sarika Saiyara from Academia bringing up the rear. The questions were difficult, and the three contestants had very different starts. Nahiyan took a big lead right off the bat, but as the game progressed, the difference in points came close again and again as first Sarika, and then Riaz, challenged him for the top spot. Halfway into the contest, it looked like anyone's game but after a burst of rapid fire questions, it was eventually Nahiyan who won the match with a whopping 1525 points. Riaz ended with 1006 points, and Sarika – even though she had more correct answers – managed to accumulate 752 points.

"I expected one of the other two to win because I had talked to them beforehand, and they are both smart and intelligent people," said a visibly excited Nahiyan at the end of the contest. He proceeds to the next round he will be joined by the winner of the other matches of the first round.

The Daily Star Genius powered by Walton Smart Fridge is an initiative of SHOUT. Episodes are aired live at 9 PM every Monday on The Daily Star and SHOUT's Facebook page, as well as The Daily Star's YouTube channel and website.
