IIT, DU holds ITverse: A software engineers’ convention
Institute of Information Technology (IIT), University of Dhaka has recently organized "ITverse", a national IT festival for the Software Engineering and Computer Science students of Bangladesh. The first of its kind, "ITverse" has been organized by IIT Software Engineers' Community (IITSEC), a student organization of IIT. The event was co-sponsored by Brainstation-23 and sponsored by Bangladesh Research & Education Network (BdREN). The strategic partners of ITverse were LICT, BASIS, E-CAB & BACCO.
Starting from November 13, 2020, the event had a total of 5 segments: Hackathon, Business Case Competition, Internal Programming contest, Digital Art competition and Science Fiction competition. In the 5 segments of the event about 500 students from various institutions participated from all over the country.
In the hackathon "HackTheVerse", the problem was set in 3 domains and the problem sets were provided by our partners: BASIS, BRAINSTATION-23, BdREN and E-CAB. In the case competition "ReDesign 2020", the problem was set in 2 rounds and the problem sets were provided by our partners: LICT & BACCO. These problems provided an opportunity of collaboration between the participants and the industry. Moreover, the registration fees of this event were donated to volunteer organization Sandhani, who will provide the poor with winter clothes.
"ITverse" also organized 3 webinars related to IT. The discussion topics included data-driven decisions, large scale software engineering, and digital security: preparedness, policy and practice The guest speakers of the webinars included representatives from the government – Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, Policy Advisor of A2I, Deputy Director of BTRC's Systems and Services Division, and Director-National Data Center of Bangladesh Computer Council – and private IT organizations like Pathao, Shohoz, Robi Axiata Ltd, Reve Systems along with the faculty members of IIT, DU.
The organizing club IITSEC started its journey in 2017, to achieve the goal of creating a platform, for the students of IIT, that will create an industry academia collaboration to further the software industry of Bangladesh to new heights. In fulfillment of this goal, IITSEC organizes seminars, workshops, project showcasing & many other events. Industry leaders share their experience and expertise in the seminars, and give their valuable feedback in the project showcasing. Apart from these, IITSEC also organizes programming contests, hackathons, olympiads and many other co-curricular and extracurricular events for the skill development of the students of IIT. IITSEC intends to continue doing its part to create a platform for the students to learn and improve themselves, and also continue arranging "ITverse" as their flagship event.
