Social Business Pedia (SBP) or as Professor Yunus calls it 'Social Business Knowledge Mall', is a free web portal dedicated to facilitate social businesses. A brainchild of Professor Yunus's and developed by Grameen Communications, SBP was envisaged as a single site where one can access news, resources and share ideas and experiences related to social business, from all corners of the world.
A multi-lingual site with contents like news, announcements, academic resources, activities and initiatives, one can easily find and access information related to social business. Besides, information on national and international social business companies, institutions and even projects are featured here. Profiles and contacts of social business companies and lists of universities and academic institutions working on social business are also integrated.
Becoming a member is as easy as clicking on the registration menu. Users can setup their profiles, post statuses, share experiences and even advertise their products. Among the site contents, Design lab, Startup Guide and Tools are the highlights. This special content helps interested parties to participate and share, learn and develop skills involved in planning and starting a social business.
The impact of such an initiative on both national and international levels is immense. “The youth represent more than 40 percent of our population. Many of them have the potential and the passion for entrepreneurship, but often do not find the right platform. Through SBP we aim to tap the youth and take forward their entrepreneurial ideas,” seconded Nazneen Sultana, Managing Director, Grameen Communications.
On asking where she sees SBP in the future, Nazneen shared, “SBP is a collective creation. It will grow with every passing day, with more people joining and contributing to make it a global resource.”
