Shakib, Mushy, Riyad pay respect to freedom fighters
The senior cricketers of Bangladesh cricket team paid their respects to the martyrs and freedom fighters over social media posts on Independence Day.
Bangladesh are celebrating a historic day today, March 26, the day when our country declared independence from Pakistan. The whole month of March is of special significance to Bangladesh as lives were lost in a country's struggle for independence.
Bangladesh's Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan paid due respect to the freedom fighters on this significant date.
"Expressing my gratitude to all the martyrs and the freedom fighters who sacrificed everything to fight for our freedom. We are forever indebted to those who gave their lives so that we could be free from the chains of oppression. Let us not forget their sacrifice and opt to do the things our freedom fighters fought for," Shakib wrote on facebook.
Mushhfiqur Rahim posted a photo of himself on facebook, clad in a Bangladesh jersey and giving two thumbs up and captioned the image with the message: "I'm proud. I'm independent. I'm BANGLADESHI.
"There is no prouder feeling than being able to call myself someone who comes from a country that is so rich in culture and diversity and so welcoming to others. Happy Independence Day MOTHERLAND."
Mahmudullah Riyad, whose fantastic innings of 43 allowed Tigers to get to the final of the Nidahas Trophy with victory against Sri Lanka posted the picture of a Bangladesh flag, flying high and wrote: "Happy Independence Day. Proud to be a Bangladeshi."
