Warsia Khusbu became the Under-7 group champion of the Asian School Chess Championship as she beat her respective opponent in the ninth and final round in Tashkent, Uzbekistan yesterday.

Warsia, who needed only to draw the match in order to win the title, beat Abylaikyzy Bibissara of Kazakhstan to tally 7.5 points from nine matches and ensure her second gold medal from the same tournament, where she also became the unbeaten champion in Rapid Chess event by earning 6.5 points from seven games.

Warsia began the nine-round championships on a winning note by beating Uzbekistan's Ilkhomova Gulkhida, however, she slipped in the second round by losing to Kazakhstan's Diaskyzy Daliya. She then drew against Mongolia's Misheel Ganbayar in the third round to secure only 1.5 points from the first three matches.

Warsia, who clinched the gold medal in the U-6 Group in the last edition of the Asian School Chess Championship in Uzbekistan, bounced back strong from the fourth round. Warsia of Elegant Chess Academy notched six straight wins over her opponents from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to succeed for the second time in the same tournament.

Warsia was uncertain about taking part in the championship before Bit Mascot Private Ltd came forward to sponsor her participation in the Asian Schools Chess Championships.
