Mash's Best
Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza bracketed the 15-run victory against England as the best achievement in his career.
"Yes I was part of many famous wins and I don't want to demean any of those. But if you consider the condition and the tournament, I must say this is the biggest achievement in my career so far. Many had the expectation back home but everybody knew how tough the group is. So, it's a significant victory for us," said an elated Bangladesh skipper during the post-match briefing.
"A great moment for our cricket history," he said, adding that win extended their horizon of dreaming bigger.
"We want to go to the quarterfinals with a momentum, so we will try our best to win our last group match against a formidable New Zealand," said Mashrafe while he was referring to the March 13 clash against the co-hosts.
"Back home people are expecting that we can go through, but we know how difficult it is in Australia because we never played in this kind of pitches, like Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide before. So it was very difficult. But the boys have been very confident. They have been working hard and their hard work paid off," he continued.
Mashrafe believed that this win would take the Bangladesh cricket to new heights and help bring more success.
"It was a good win. I would say it's a great turn for us. If I go back, I think our problem was with consistency, but in this World Cup, in two out of these five matches we have been very consistent, and hopefully it will keep going for next few matches. Obviously the boys are really happy and hope that this is one of the best turns for us and the Bangladesh cricket will move forward from here," hoped the never-say-die Bangladesh captain. He also said that the crowd was the real inspiration for them.
Mashrafe said that he got frustrated when the match got closer at one stage and the dropped catch by Tamim Iqbal also frustrated him, but in the end the win made everybody happy.
Mashrafe however came down hard on those who showed little respect to Bangladesh's pacers and he believed that the pacers could show the world how good they are.
"I'm sorry to say people were talking rubbish things about our pace bowling but we know what we are. We know what we are capable of. I hope by now people must have started to show some respect, and I'm really happy with our quicks, that they have shown the world how good they are. Hopefully this will boost their confidence. I would once again request the people to show some respect to the pacers," said Mashrafe acidly after he was repeatedly asked to put emphasis on his slow bowlers.
And it seemed he was searching for words when asked about Rubel Hossain's performance in the match.
"He [Rubel Hossain] has been fantastic in the last one and a half years. The way he bowled, it's nice to see from mid-on or mid-off. He's swinging the ball, he's bowling fast, and I'm really happy that he shouldered all the responsibilities and delivered from the start. I should mention that he was under tremendous pressure coming into this World Cup. And I hope he will continue with this kind of performance," said Mashrafe, adding that the body language of the team showed the world that the Tigers we now a different team.
