I was thinking too much before: Shakib
Bangladesh ace all-rounder pulled out a gritty knock from his hat to carry Tigers to victory in the second ODI and ensure Bangladesh's series win with a match still to go. Coming into the match on the back of a series of subpar performances with the bat, Shakib said he was trying keep himself focused and not fall prey to overthinking.
The Tigers were losing wickets at regular intervals and it became apparent that Shakib needed to be there at the end. In a tight match, with wickets falling around him and the pressures of his own form perhaps playing on his mind, Shakib found the right answers.
Asked about the hard yards he needed to accomplish for carrying the Tigers with the bat after a long time, Shakib said: "Ofcourse one always has to work hard but the mindset is very important. I feel that I was thinking a lot and perhaps was able to change that in this match. There were some things which helped me to keep my focus before this game."
After battling a rough patch, he wanted to keep his focus intact and not give in to negative feelings. "I will be trying to keep my focus. At the stage of career that I am in, I don't face technical problems that much. Mostly it's the mental aspect so basically if I can win the mental battle with myself I can score regularly," Shakib said in a video message while replying to questions posed by the media.
