‘Cristiano doesn’t own Real Madrid’
Real Madrid left-back Marcelo said that teammate and friend Cristiano Ronaldo has no power over the Spanish giant’s transfer strategy while admitting that he would be delighted to see Neymar in the all-white jersey.
Ronaldo fueled transfer speculations just after Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph over the Reds last month by saying it had been beautiful for him to be at Madrid. Now, the speculations are gaining traction as the five times Ballon d’Or winner is reportedly unhappy with his current contract at Real Madrid, putting him in bad terms with the club President Florentino Perez.
With all these transfer rumours running rampant, Neymar has been linked with the European giants for a very long time. Los Blancos number 10 Luka Modric had earlier told Neymar that Real Madrid players are ‘waiting for him’ to move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer after a pre-World Cup friendly between Brazil and Croatia.
Marcelo once again said Neymar is wanted at Madrid and insisted that Los Blancos goal machine Ronaldo will not have any influence on this matter.
“Cristiano doesn’t own Real Madrid so if the president wants to sign somebody he will do it.
“If Cristiano stays, does that mean that Neymar can’t come? We all want Ronaldo to stay and Neymar has our doors wide open.
“Madrid always have to find the best players and I think Neymar will play for Real Madrid one day.”
Marcelo has also suggested that Neymar will one day inherit a crown currently owned by Ronaldo.
“I’ve yet to understand how the Ballon D’or works,” said Marcelo.
“I just don’t know if you get it because of the titles you’ve won, the season you’ve completed or just how good you are as a player. It’s up to those voting.
“To me, Ronaldo is the world’s greatest right now and I have no doubt in my mind that Neymar will be just as good.”
Both Marcelo and Neymar are currently with their national team Brazil preparing for the World Cup starting from June 14.
