Daily Star clinch 2nd place

The Daily Star (TDS) became runner-up in the 34-team Walton-DRU Media Cup Football Tournament after they were beaten 3-2 in the penalty shootout by Bangla Vision at Shaheed (Captain) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in Gulistan today.

The 30-minute stipulated time for the final could not produce a winner as both teams failed to score. During the penalty shootout, Bangla Vision goalkeeper Dipen Dewan made some crucial saves to deny TDS, reports our correspondent.

Man-of-the-match Dipen kept his side in the contest with some decisive saves, especially during the penalty shootout. Only Hasan Jahid Tusher and Anisur Rahman of TDS were successful in their attempts at goal.

The guest player of Bangla Vision, Moniruzzaman Ujjal was adjudged the player-of-the-tournament. ATN Bangla received the Fair Play award for their efforts.

Earlier in the morning, TDS made light work of Sangbad Pratidin as they romped to the final with a 3-0 win. TDS qualified for the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Gazi TV on August 30. On August 31, they beat Kaler Kantha 2-1 in penalty shootout to reach the semis.

The Walton-DRU Media Cup Football Tournament, organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and sponsored by Walton Group began on August 28 with 34 teams representing various print, electronic media, news agencies and online media houses of Bangladesh.
