Mosammat Sagorika of Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan College SC, who finished runners-up in the UCB Bangladesh Women's Football League on Tuesday, finished as the second highest scorer with 15 goals. The 17-year-old, who had made headlines during February's SAFF U-19 Women's Championship by emerging as the top-scorer and the best player, talked to The Daily Star's Anisur Rahman regarding her experience in the league.

The Daily Star (DS): How do you feel after finishing as the second top-scorer?
Mosammat Sagorika (MS): I finished second only because Sabina apu [17 goals] toppled me in her last match today [Tuesday] with five goals, but I am happy with my feat because I had scored 10 goals for FC Bramanbaria in the last edition and that is a big improvement.

DS: Did you expect to score so many goals while playing among so many experienced forwards like Sabina Khatun, Krishna Rani, Tahura Khatun and Shamsunnahar Jr in just your second top-tier campaign?

MS: I never imagined that but my determination and courage were there to score as many goals as I could.

DS: What were the things that played in your mind when you stepped onto the pitch every time?

MS: I always think that a striker goes to the pitch for scoring goals as the success of the team mostly depends on the success of strikers. So I try to score to make sure of the team's victory.

DS: Would you put any goals ahead of the others?

MS: No, every goal is special for me because I had to work hard to score each goal that helped my team to win matches.

DS: Anything new you learnt in your second league campaign?

MS: The league was really competitive as every team were really tough and performed well. All the players tried to give their best. Individually, I had to compete against senior players of the national team so that I could stake a place in the national team. The thing I learnt most, however, was assisting teammates to score goals instead of only scoring for myself.

DS: Your team started with a defeat but bounced back later. How did it become possible?

MS: We did not understand of how to play in the first match and everyone was upset after conceding the defeat. But then we bounced back with determination that we could win. The match against Nasrin SA was really tough for us but we were happy to play out a draw against a team comprising national team players.

DS: Do you have regrets for not finishing as champions?

MS: Of course, we have regrets as we finished runners-up for the third time in a row. Our target was to become champions this time.

DS: How did the players outside the national pool perform?

MS: There are really good players in other teams and everyone tried to put their best in a bid to get into the national team.

DS: How much payment did you get this time?

MS: The payment was good, although I don't want to reveal it. It was three-times the amount I got FC Bramanbaria last season.

DS: The national team is going to play two FIFA friendly matches against Chinese Taipei next week. Are you confident about getting a call?

MS: I am in the preliminary camp of the national team. I don't know whether the coach will call me even though I am working hard. I won't mind even if I don't get a call this time as I will have enough opportunities to make it happen in future.
