Guardiola quickest to 100 CL wins as manager
This time Manchester City left nothing to chance as they demolished Real Madrid 4-0 to march into the Champions League final for the second time in three seasons with a 5-1 aggregate victory at a raucous Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.
The victory saw City manager Pep Guardiola become the quickest manager to 100 Champions League wins.
The Spaniard has taken just 160 matches as a boss in the competition to reach the total, faster than previous record holder Carlo Ancelotti, who took 180 games to reach three figures.
In fact, Guardiola is only the third manager to reach the landmark with Sir Alex Ferguson the first to do it after 184 fixtures.
Guardiola has won 47 of his 74 matches with City in the tournament at a win rate of 64%. In that time, City have scored 174 and conceded just 75.
Before coming to the Etihad, he had masterminded 30 victories in the competition with Barcelona and 23 at Bayern Munich.
Only three managers have won more European Cups than Guardiola, thanks to his two successes at Barcelona; Ancelotti, Zinedine Zidane and Bob Paisley.
The 52-year-old took City to their first Champions League final in 2020-21 and has now guided them to three consecutive semi-finals.
The 5-1 aggregate victory over Madrid means City will face Inter Milan in the final in Istanbul on June 10.
