Mash and Mushy proud despite Bangladesh's 1-1 draw
Bangladesh put a very good account of themselves in the 2022 World Cup qualifying match against India at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata yesterday. Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim were proud of the efforts of the national football team as they were denied a win due to a late goal from India.
Bangladesh had taken the lead in the first half and created enough chances in the second half to double their advantage. However, the chances created did not result in a goal and India, an attacking side looking to put pressure, finally got their way in the dying moments of the game to deprive Bangladesh of a win.
Mashrafe wrote on his official Facebook: “Well done, Boys. Still proud of you despite conceding a last minute goal. Let’s keep our head high and looking forward to the next match.”
Mushfiqur posted the picture of the starting eleven and captioned it with “Hard luck for the boys. Proud of the effort and determination. Next time in Sha Allah. Always have the support.”
The away match, played in front of a capacity crowd of 70,000, was always going to be a very difficult challenge but for much of the match Jamie Day’s charges showed good organisation and mentality. Even in football, India have been a thorn in Bangladesh’s side as it was the third time in a row that Bangladesh were denied of a first win over India in 16 years. But given the quality they showed at Kolkata, fans like Mashrafe and Mushfiqur can hope for a better future.
