WSL trophy, match ball unveiling ceremony held
Ahead of the inaugural Women Super League (WSL), its trophy and official match ball was unveiled during a grand ceremony at a five-star hotel in the capital on Monday.
The FIFA-approved match ball, named 'Astra' (weapon), and the gorgeous trophy, made in England by renowned company Inkersmith, was on display after world's only foot archer Orissa Kelly graced the stage and had the audience captivated during the unveiling act. Afterwards, Karishma Kotak, British actress, model and face of WSL, briefed the audience about the features of the WSL trophy and its match ball.
The programme, hosted by Indian sports presenter Sonal Sharma, was attended by a majority of the national team footballers who won the historic SAFF Women's Championship last year. The footballers were accompanied by several female artists -- the likes of Sharmin Sultana Sumi (musician), Azmeri Haque Badhon (actor), Tasnia Farin (actor), among others.
Mahfuza Akter Kiran, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) women's wing manager, was also present on the occasion and said a tournament like WSL has the potential to drive women's football in Bangladesh forward by leaps and bounds if successfully organized.
K-SPORTS holds the rights for the WSL, which is set to commence on May 15.
