‘What's your name?’- Referee error sees player sent off
Ex Arsenal youngster was sent off after the official mistook his name for dissent, and the player responded on social media.
Former Arsenal player Sanchez Watt raged on social media and has responded to being sent off over confusion over his surname by saying ‘stop playing with my name.’
During a national league match between Hemel Hempstead and East Thurrock, Watt was initially given a yellow for kicking the ball away in frustration.
When the referee proceeded to ask him his surname, the player replied by giving his surname thrice. Unfortunately, the referee mistook Watt as saying ‘What?’ and sent the player off with a red card!
Watt’s captain then intervened to explain to the referee that the player was mererly named Watt and he was not in fact trying to show further dissent. The refree then reversed the decision.
