The flood victims continue to face numerous challenges. More recently, actors Tawsif Mahbub and Tanjin Tisha came forward to help the villagers who have been affected by the flood.
Although Apu Biswas couldn't personally visit the flood-affected areas, she ensured that relief supplies were sent through a delegation. "I wanted to be there, but with a young impressionable child at home, I couldn't make the trip myself. Instead, I sent aid through my representatives."
The Jagannath University Band Music Association is hosting a charity concert to support flood relief efforts across 11 districts of the country.
Amid the ongoing flood crisis affecting nearly millions of people across the country, cultural community members have stepped up to support those impacted in various ways. This time, the independent filmmaking community is contributing by organising open-air film screenings. As part of their initiative, 15 short films will be showcased at the open stage of Suhrawardy Udyan.
On Friday, August 23, a concert titled “Joruri Shongjog” was held at the base of the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University to raise funds for flood victims. The event commenced in the afternoon where a large gathering came forward to contribute to the cause.
Heavy rains and landslides from upstream India have inundated the southeastern districts of the country. Regions such as Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Cumilla, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, and Khagrachari are struggling with severe flooding.
In less than two decades, the number of people exposed to flood risks rose by 1.5 crore, around nine percent of the country’s population, due to human settlements and infrastructural developments in floodplains, says a study.
Three more deaths from flood were reported in Sunamganj and Moulvibazar districts in 24 hours till this (July 12, 2022) morning, taking the total fatalities to 116.

Most of the flood victims in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram are yet to receive their share of the flood rations even though 863 metric tonnes of of Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) rice was allotted for 86,315 poor families on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
