Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra feels better in hand than S24 Ultra
Samsung has recently unveiled its S25 lineup at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event on 23 January 2025. We had the exclusive opportunity to use the Galaxy S25 Ultra for a short time, and here are our initial thoughts:
Design
The Galaxy S25 Ultra maintains the premium sleek feel and looks similar to the S24 Ultra. However, upon grabbing the device feels lighter, bezels are thinner, and easier to use. The corners of the device are rounded making it easier to grab from the pocket.
Display
Despite being 14g less in weight than the S24 Ultra, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is a bit bigger than the previous flagship with its 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display providing a QHD+ resolution, and a super smooth 120 Hz refresh rate ensuring smooth scrolling and responsiveness. With a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and anti-reflective coating, the screen remains clear even under direct sunlight. The durability of the display is also improved by corning gorilla armor 2.
Camera
A major change in case of the Galaxy S25 Ultra camera is that the Ultra-wide camera has been upgraded to 50MP which was previously 12MP in S24 Ultra. This upgrade allows the users to capture much higher quality ultra-wide shots which can come in handy when taking those group photos. The Galaxy S25 Ultra also has a 200MP Wide lens, a 50MP, and a 10MP Telephoto camera. The front camera is 12MP like the previous S24 Ultra.
Technical and battery
Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, it delivers exceptional performance for multitasking and gaming. The new processor performs with a 40% improvement in neural processing, a 37% boost in CPU, and a 30% increase in GPU efficiency over the previous generation, according to samsung. Because of the powerful processor, Samsung has also increased S25 Ultra's thermal management through a 40% larger vapor chamber than previous generation.
The device houses a 5,000 mAh battery supporting 45W wired charging and 25W wireless charging and offers configurations of 12 GB RAM paired with 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB of internal storage.
Software and AI features
One of the key differences in the Galaxy S25 Ultra from the previous generation is how the device interacts with AI to make the phone like a 'JARVIS' from 'Iron Man'. By holding down the power button, users can launch Gemini which is a bit different from traditional Gemini available in other devices. Users can include photos there to understand anything about the elements in the image. For example, we gave one particular meeting minutes to the Gemini of S25 Ultra and it gave us detailed insights and suggestions for improvements.
We also explored the video editing tool through Galaxy AI which allows easy noise control. With just a single tap, the audio of any video can be differentiated in ways like 'voice', 'wind', 'noise', 'crowd' and other categories.
The operating system (OS) runs on Android 15 with One UI 7, providing a user-friendly interface. Samsung will give up to 7 generations of OS upgrades and 7 years of security updates, ensuring long-term support.
The recently launched Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S25+ will be available in Bangladesh and pre-orders for these devices will begin from 29 January 2024, according to Samsung.
