Murder-suspect killed in Dhaka ‘gunfight’
A man, earlier identified by police as a suspect in the murder of Banani manpower businessman, was killed in a “gunfight” with detectives in Dhaka few hours after he got caught and handed over to police for allegedly killing one of his associates yesterday.
The alleged criminal Nurul Islam alias Nuree was killed in what law enforcers said a gunfight in Satarkul area of Badda in the capital early today.
Nuree, who was injured during the “gunfight”, succumbed at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Kazi Wazed Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda Police Station, told The Daily Star.
Unidentified criminals fired at the law enforcers as they were conducting a drive taking Nuree with them in the area, according to police.
Yesterday afternoon, locals caught Nuree suspected of shooting and killing his associate, Badsha, at a fish market around 1:00pm yesterday, the OC said.
Nuree was handed over to the police as he was fleeing the shooting scene, police and locals said.
Nuree is one of the four suspects who entered the office of Munshi Overseas at Banani and shoot its owner SiddikHossen Munshi on November 14, 2017, said Mohammad Shajahan, additional deputy commissioner of detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
“We have been looking for him for a long time,” he added.
In primary interrogation, Nuree told police that he killed Badsha over money, said Shajahan.
ADC Shajahan said Nuree was accused in several cases and convicted in at least in two cases of robbery and possession of firearms.
