Father commits suicide after killing daughter

A man committed suicide after killing his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter at his residence in Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh today.

The deceased are rickshaw-van driver Jamil Hossain, 40, a resident of Boroichala in the upazila and his daughter Rabeya Begum, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.

Quoting Jamil’s wife Rokeya Begum, Officer-in-Charge of Bhaluka Police Station Mamun-or-Rashid said the victim might took his own life out of poverty. He had huge debt on him, the OC.

Jamil first slit throat of his daughter and then stabbed himself with the same knife around 6:30am, the OC informed. Jamil succumbed to his injuries while neighbours were taking him to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex around 7:00am.

Later, police recovered the bodies and sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Jamil left his two sons – Shakhawat Hossain, 12, and Shah Poran, 3, the OC said.
