Habiganj tea workers set 7-day ultimatum
Tea garden workers today issued a seven-day ultimatum to the authorities to meet their demand for cancelling the special economic zone (SEZ) in Chunarughat of Habiganj.
Makhan Lal Karmaker, president of Bangladesh Tea Labour Union, also threatened that workers from all the 163 tea gardens will go on an indefinite work strike if the demand is not fulfilled by that time.
The union leader issued the ultimatum while addressing a rally of the workers at Chandpara, where the SEZ is planned, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

Around 15,000 workers from all 24 tea gardens in Habiganj district abstained from the work for the day and took part in the rally that started around 11:00am.
Workers of four tea gardens in Chunarughat upazila are on the sixth day of their indefinite strike demanding cancellation of the special economic zone.
