JSD MP urges govt to enact law for trying rapists
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal MP Shirin Akhter today in parliament demanded that the government enact a new law ensuring exemplary punishment of rapist and oppressors of women and children.
Shirin Akhter, JSD MP from Feni-1, came up with the demand while placing a call attention notice in the House.
Pointing to today’s news reports on increasing number of rape incidents and women and child repression, Shirin said where our society is heading for?
“Why our society is going towards downgrading when we are telling that we are heading towards development—when we are telling about good governance under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. We must have to find out the reason.”
Pointing to recent rape incident at city’s Wari and brutal killing of Rifat, she said the government should formulate a new law so that culprits get exemplary punishment without making delay in the name of trial process.
