BSA launches first-ever Munier Chowdhury National Theatre Festival

For the first time, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is set to organise the Munier Chowdhury National Theatre Festival, with a 15-day, production-based theatre workshop already underway across the country in three phases.

A total of 16 theatre troupes will be selected from the workshop to participate in the festival, according to a press release issued by the academy's Public Relations Department.

The first phase of the workshop commenced on January 20 and will continue until February 3, while the second phase is scheduled to run from February 3 to February 10.

Additionally, the third phase of the workshop will begin on February 3 and conclude on February 17.

Once the first and second phases are completed, eight theatre troupes from eight divisional cities will be selected between February 13 and 18 for the central theatre festival.

After the conclusion of the third phase, another eight troupes from the eight divisions will be selected between February 21 and 28. In this way, a total of 16 teams will be chosen to participate in the Munier Chowdhury National Theatre Festival, as planned by Shilpakala Academy.

According to Shilpakala Academy, a gathering was held on January 5 with the directors of theatre workshops from all 64 districts. At the event, the academy's Director General, Syed Jamil Ahmed, provided guidelines regarding the production-based theatre workshop and the Munier Chowdhury National Theatre Festival.

The theatre workshop is taking place in several districts across the country.

In the Dhaka division, the workshop is being conducted in Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Manikganj, Tangail, Shariatpur, Gopalganj, Kishoreganj, and Gazipur.

In the Mymensingh division, it is being held in Mymensingh, Netrokona, Jamalpur, and Sherpur.

In the Chattogram division, the workshop is taking place in Feni, Chandpur, and Brahmanbaria.

In the Rajshahi division, it is being organised in Rajshahi, Bogura, Pabna, Joypurhat, and Naogaon.

In the Khulna division, the selected districts are Khulna, Magura, Kushtia, and Jhenaidah.

Additionally, in the Rangpur division, the workshop is being conducted in Rangpur and Panchagarh, while in the Barishal division, it is being held in Patuakhali, Jhalokathi, and Pirojpur.

In the Sylhet division, the workshop is being organised in Moulvibazar and Sunamganj.

Second phase of the theatre workshop

The second phase of the theatre workshop is being held in several districts across different divisions.

In the Dhaka division, the workshop is taking place in Faridpur, Rajbari, and Munshiganj.

In the Chattogram division, it is being conducted in Chattogram, Rangamati, Lakshmipur, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, and Noakhali.

In the Rajshahi division, the selected districts are Sirajganj, Natore, and Chapainawabganj.

In the Khulna division, the workshop is being held in Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jashore, Chuadanga, Narail, and Meherpur.

In the Rangpur division, the workshop is taking place in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Thakurgaon, and Dinajpur.

In the Barishal division, the selected districts are Barishal and Barguna.

In the Sylhet division, the workshop is being conducted in Sylhet and Habiganj.

The third phase of the theatre workshop will be held in Madaripur under the Dhaka division, Bhola under the Barishal division, and Cumilla under the Chattogram division.
