Popular Bangladeshi theatre troupe Swapnadal is going to perform for the 25th edition of the largest theatre festival in Asia, "Bharat Rang Mahotsav," in Delhi, India.

The National School of Drama (NSD) is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world, the largest in Asia and the only one of its kind in India. The central theatre school of India has been organising the festival for a decade, showcasing the performances of creative theatre performers in India and from across the world.

Swapnadal is among 11 international and 61 Indian theatre troupes which have been selected to perform in the most prestigious and pioneering festival in India. All of these plays will be staged across India–in Delhi and 13 other cities–in the transnational festival from February 1 to February 21, 2024.

The troupe is going to stage its most popular production, "Chitrangada", in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on February 10 and at the National School of Drama, New Delhi, on February 12 for theatre enthusiasts from all over the world.

"Chitrangada", which has been staged for more than 100th time in Bangladesh and across the world, was scheduled to be showcased on the 22nd edition of the festival in 2022 as well, but it was halted due to the Covid-19-related restrictions on international travel. Therefore, the troupe got reinvited for next year's festival.

Published in 1892, "Chitrangada" is a dance-drama written by Rabindranath Tagore. The drama is based on the story of Chitrangada, the mythological princess of the Kingdom of Manipur and one of the wives of Arjuna, according to the Mahabharat. The plot explores the intricacies of spiritual and physical love among lovers.

The 23rd Bharat Rang Mahotsav will include several national and international performances and various associated events in a wrap-around program.
