Theatrewala Repertory to stage ‘Najuk Manusher Shonglap’
Earlier today, Theatrewala Repertory staged Shahaduz Zaman's "Najuk Manusher Shonglap" at Neelima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity. The theatre troupe will be staging twelve shows of the play for nine consecutive days until May 27.
"Najuk Manusher Shonglap" revolves around the encounters of a wise old man and a misguided youth, highlighting a philosophical conversation about the truths of life. The narrative of the play is taken from Shahaduz Zaman's book "Mamlar Shakhi Moyna Pakhi".
Speaking about "Najuk Manusher Shonghap", the director of the play shared, "In literature, there are many examples where we search for answers to philosophical questions through conversations. When I write a story, I try to experiment with not only the narrative but also the style and angle of it. Sometimes, I want to break the boundaries separating plays, novels, novellas, and poems. I faced different questions in various stages of my life and wished to share them with someone. However, when I didn't find anyone to converse about these questions—I created two fictional characters, and through their conversation, I carried out resolving my own questions. However, I never thought that my story would ever be staged as a theatre play."
Saif Suman, a member of the Anuswar theatre troupe, who helped in adapting "Najuk Manusher Shonglap" into a theatre play, shared, "Being curious and questioning everything has always been the nature of humans since ancient times. This is what fueled our advancement till now. Humans have always tried to learn the truth about life. In fact, our elders have also answered a few philosophical questions of life through their own experiences. However, in our current age, there seems to be a subtle terror in everyone's eyes. Everyone seems to be pretending to be fresh while being utterly exhausted with the everyday struggle to survive."
"At its core, the play embodied this in its narrative," he concluded.
