Allu Arjun faces legal action after stampede at ‘Pushpa 2’ screening claims woman’s life
A 35-year-old woman lost her life, and her son was critically injured in a stampede during the screening of "Pushpa 2" at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. The incident, which took place on December 4, occurred when a large crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of actor Allu Arjun, leading to chaos.
Hyderabad police have registered a case against Allu Arjun, the "Pushpa 2" movie team, the theatre owner, and the actor's security personnel. According to Central Zone DCP Akansh Yadav, the charges include culpable homicide not amounting to murder and causing hurt, under Sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The stampede broke out when a massive crowd assembled outside the theatre, hoping to see Allu Arjun, who made a surprise appearance at the premiere. Among those affected was Revathi, a resident of Dilsukhnagar, who had come to the event with her husband and two children. Revathi and her 13-year-old son, Sri Tej, were caught in the surge and lost consciousness due to the overwhelming crowd.
Police reports revealed that the theatre management and the actor's team had not provided any prior information about Allu Arjun's arrival, nor had they made arrangements to control the crowd. The absence of security measures or separate entry and exit points for the actor's team further worsened the situation.
When Allu Arjun arrived at the theatre with his personal security team, the already massive crowd attempted to push through to get closer to him. The actor's security personnel reportedly began pushing back the public, which exacerbated the situation. A large number of fans forced their way into the lower balcony, causing panic.
Revathi and Sri Tej were severely affected by the crowd's rush and collapsed due to suffocation. They were immediately taken to Durga Bhai Deshmukh Hospital, where Revathi was declared dead on arrival. Her son, in critical condition, was transferred to KIMS Hospital in Begumpet for further treatment.
The incident unfolded around 10:30 pm, despite police efforts to manage the crowd. Videos from the event show Allu Arjun waving to his fans from his car, urging them to make way, before leaving the venue under heavy security escort.
The case has sparked discussions about the lack of safety protocols at large public events and the responsibility of organisers and celebrities in preventing such tragedies.
