An extremist was killed in an encounter between his accomplices and the police at Dighalkandi in Daulatpur early yesterday.
The dead was identified as Akmal Hossain, 36, a cadre of notorious 'Anu Bahini'.
Police arrested Akmal from Mahishkundi in Daulatpur on Monday night. During the interrogation, the police got information about Akmal's accomplices and their firearms.
Later, the law enforcers took Akmal to Dighalkandi at about 2:00am to arrest his cohorts.
As soon as the police reached near Dighalkandi Baini crossing, Akmal's accomplices started firing that triggered a gun battle.
Akmal was caught in the crossfire and died on the spot, according to a spot account.
A pistol and two bullets were also recovered from the scene.
