Shobhajatra the largest, most diverse this year: DU VC

Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Dr Md Niaz Ahmed Khan today said the Borshoboron Anondo Shobhajatra held today was the largest and most diverse till date.

"This year's rally featured representation from the highest number of ethnic communities, including indigenous groups from both plains and hills, as well as Bangalees," the VC said while speaking to journalists after the conclusion of the procession at DU's Faculty of Fine Arts.

He noted that the international recognition of the Mangal Shobhajatra had been based on three major criteria, one of which was the emphasis on showcasing as much cultural and ethnic diversity as possible.

The DU VC also said this year's arrangement aimed to reflect the current socio-political reality shaped by recent student uprisings.

Mentioning that this year's theme focused on two key messages, he said, "First, the celebration of joy and unity following the collapse of repressive, authoritarian, administrative, and socio-political systems."

"Second, the theme of solidarity and cooperation -- not just for Bangladesh, but also as a symbol of our support for oppressed and persecuted people around the world in their just movements," he also said.

"I'm not saying everything was flawless, but overall this was a successful event," the DU VC added.
