‘Drug dealer’ killed in Gazipur ‘gunfight’
An alleged drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Pubail area of Gazipur early today.
The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam alias Nazu, 40, a listed drug and arms dealer, Md Kamruzzaman, assistant director of Rab-1, told The Daily Star.
Nazrul was accused in around 12 drug related cases, the Rab official said.
On information that a gang of drug dealers were holing up in Aronnobas area of Pubail, a team of Rab-1 went to the spot around 2:00am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals started firing at them, prompting the Rab officials to retaliate, he said.
After the gunfight, law enforcers found the bullet-hit body of Nazrul on the spot and rushed him to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Rab also recovered three shotguns, one pistol, bullets and 2,450 pieces of yaba from the spot, the Rab official added.
