Ahead of BNP's divisional mass rally in Faridpur on Saturday (November 12, 2022), police have started conducting raids at the houses of local BNP leaders and activists, including that of a leader who died 12 years ago.

Bachchu Mia, former president of BNP's Faridpur city unit, died on August 28, in 2010.

According to Bachchu's wife Moushumi Ali, two police officials raided their house in Mia Para Road in West Khabaspur Mohalla area of Faridpur city on Tuesday night (November 8, 2022).

Moushumi Ali told The Daily Star the police said they came from Dhaka. They went to Moushumi's house at 11pm and kept asking her to open the door.

"They also called out my husband's name asking him to come out, saying they are here to pick him up," Moushumi said.

"When they kept pushing at the door, I told them to go to the graveyard, if they want to pick him up (Bachchu Mia), as he is not alive anymore," she added.

Moushumi further said police kept insisting her to open the door and when she refused, they allegedly said "We know how to open the door."

"I told them that we can't open the door at this hour. You have to wait until it's morning."

Bachchu and Moushumi's daughter Antora Malia (25) and son Mahir Arafat Ali (16) were present at the house during the raid.

The next morning, Moushumi Ali, submitted her husband's death certificate to the police station.

However, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station MA Jalil told reporters that there was a warrant against Bachchu Mia's teenage son and not Bachchu Mia.

"The warrant obtained from court may have factual errors. We are checking it," he added.
