Currently on display at Kala Kendra in Dhaka, "Liminal Horizon" is a solo exhibition by artist Sanad Biswas that explores the concept of transitional spaces, blurring the lines between the tangible and the intangible. Through an enticing collection of sculptures, the exhibition explores themes of liminality where the familiar dissolves into the unknown. As one of the most striking sculpture showcases in Dhaka's post-pandemic art scene, "Liminal Horizon" stands out for its thought-provoking approach and the way it redefines spatial perception.

Sanad's sculptures oscillate between the whimsical and the unsettling, featuring exaggerated humanoid forms, inflated ballooning figures, and disembodied anatomical elements.

Their surreal presence strikes a peculiar balance between playfulness and unease, conjuring an uncanny familiarity that extends beyond mere visual perception. These creations challenge our understanding of vulnerability and existence on what it means to be human amidst the elaborated tiers of modern life.

"Sanad's sculptural approach stands apart from the conventional styles we often encounter in our local art scene. His works are striking and hold their ground even within the standards of the global contemporary art world," remarked artist and curator Sanjid Mahmud, who masterfully organised the exhibition— one of its notable aspects.

Transforming a space like Kala Kendra into an effective exhibition venue presents a unique challenge in itself, as it was originally a residential floor rather than a gallery. Despite these challenges, Sanjid skillfully designed a well-organised and visually engaging exhibition that elevates the presence of Sanad's sculptures.

While primarily a sculpture exhibition, it also features a selection of paintings, drawings, installations, and photographs documenting the artist's performance art.

Beyond showcasing individual works, the exhibition serves as a visual chronicle of nearly two decades of Sanad's artistic journey.

"Liminal Horizon" is open to all and welcomes visitors daily from 4pm to 8pm until January 7, 2025, at Kala Kendra.
