U-19s thrash Sri Lanka
Bangladesh completed their AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers campaign on a winning note with a comfortable 4-0 victory against Sri Lanka in their last Group B match at the Hisor Central Stadium in Dushanbe today.
Bangladesh scored all four of their goals in the first half, but failed to add after the break. They needed a greater margin of victory to keep an outside chance of progressing as group runners-up alive.
Mahbubur Rahman Sufil (38’, 45+1’) scored twice while Biswanath Ghosh (13’) and Riyadul Hasan(33’) netted one goal each for Bangladesh, who finished with seven points from four outings, equal with hosts Tajikistan, who are scheduled to take on leaders Uzbekistan in their last match later today.
If Tajikistan lose to Uzbekistan by a margin of eight goals, only then will Bangladesh finish as group runners-up. Otherwise Bangladesh will have to be content with a third-place finish in the five-team group.
