Bomb hits woman on head

A woman was critically injured as a cocktail hits her on the head in Shantipur in the capital today around 3:30pm in the afternoon.

Identified as Anowara Begum, 42, a cocktail thrown from a rally landed squarely on her head, exploding her skull.

Anowara was walking past the rally, on her way home from work.

She is a cook at the Malibagh branch of National Bank, and a resident of Khilgaon.

The victim was brought into Dhaka Medical College Hospital by her nephew Ronny.

DMCH sources termed her state as critical.

Law enforcers detained BNP standing committee member Brig (retd) ASM Hannan Shah from Baridhara in the capital this evening, minutes after the opposition alliance rejected polls schedule.

Abu Yousuf, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told The Daily Star that the detectives picked up the BNP leader at Badda around 9:00pm.

He however did not give any reason behind the arrest.
