Dense fog causes disruption in flight operations
Three flights of China Southern, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Malindo Air couldn't land at the Dhaka airport on Tuesday night due to heavy fog, leaving several hundred passengers stranded.
The flight of China Southern CZ-391 was supposed to land at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:20pm. But due to heavy fog the pilot was forced to return back to Kunming, China, Md Doulotuzzaman, Assistant Director, Air Traffic Control, HSIA, told The Daily Star.
The Saudia flight, SV 804, that came from Riyadh was supposed to land at the HSIA at around 11:30pm.
"After entering into Bangladesh territory, the pilot observed bad weather and was forced to divert to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata due to poor visibility," Doulotuzzaman also said.
Malindo Air's flight OD-162 that took off from Kuala Lumpur for Dhaka was also forced to divert to Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok.
The flight was scheduled to land at HSIA at 11:50pm.
