Film star Tama Mirza became the focus of attention after her role in “Ek Mon Ek Praan”, helmed by Shohanoor Rahman Shohan. Her popularity gained steam after her appearances in a number of subsequent films, before she went on to win the National Film Award for her part in “Nodijon”. In a recent conversation with The Daily Star, the actress talks about the film and the success that followed.

“This is one of those instances where awards are not the sole purpose of striving in cinema. To be able to act in 'Nodijon' itself has brought me to the peak of my career. I knew this film was going to great heights while working on the set, and my predictions have been spot on.”

“Initially, I had some reservations about taking up the venture. The narrative is set in a village, and I was used to playing only glamorous roles. The director, Shahnewaz Kakoly, with whom I was well acquainted, invited me over to her house several times to discuss the plot, and I was soon enamoured by the story.”

“In the narrative, I play a character named Chhaya, who is from a poor family, and always donned in tattered clothers. To prepare for the part, I had to immerse myself in Chhaya's surroundings, and live out a few days in hardship. The journey that brought us to the completion of 'Nodijon' is a story in itself.”

“I am not a schooled actor, but for 'Nodijon' I have had to train intensely which was a priceless experience. I don't know if such opportunities will come by again, but if they don't, I have no regrets; I am happy with 'Nodijon' being a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

“After winning the award, many well-wishers from the industry and beyond came forward to congratulate me. I am overwhelmed, and grateful for their compliments. Their appreciation is proof that I have done good work. It is every actor's dream to win the National Film Award, and 'Nodijon' has fulfilled mine.”
