Ninth grader 'raped' by neighbour

A ninth grader was allegedly raped by her neighbour in a village of Jashore's Jhikargachha upazila on Sunday night.

The victim's mother filed a case with Jhikargachha Police Station against Arafat Hossain Sunny, 25, who went into hiding after the incident.

The mother alleged that Arafat took her daughter to his house and raped her there.

He also threatened to kill her daughter if she disclosed the incident, she added.

The victim shared it with her mother. The family members then informed villagers.

The villagers assured them of settling the matter through arbitration and asked them not to go to police. Seeing no move for the arbitration, the mother filed the case.

Sub-inspector Ejajur Rahman, investigation officer of the case, said they were trying to arrest the accused.
