A female doctor – allegedly set her on fire following altercation with her husband on June 24 – died at a hospital in Dhaka this morning (June 29, 2022).

Adity Sarker (38) breathed her last around 10am at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief national coordinator for plastic surgery and burn projects in Bangladesh, said.

She was a doctor of Pediatric Department at Dhaka's Mitford Hospital. With 50 percent burns, she was being treated at the burn institute's intensive care unit.

Kabir Hossain Hawlader, officer-in-charge of Wari Police Station, today said the woman in her dying declaration stated that she set herself on fire in their flat on Wari's Hare Street following an altercation with her husband.

"She regretted, appealed to save her, and did not blame anyone," he said.

Her husband Manesh Mondal earlier said, "When I was in office [on June 24] and giving an interview online, Adity was repeatedly calling me over the phone."

"I declined her calls but she was calling me repeatedly. So, I picked up and responded angrily."

"When I returned home at noon and was changing, I heard screams from the next room. I ran and saw her on fire," he claimed.
