Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing along B'baria border
A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) inside the Indian territory opposite to Kasba upazila in Brahmanbaria last night.
Citing Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Kasba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Samiul Islam confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Al-Amin, 32, son of Sultan Miah from South Putia village.
According to the UNO, Al-Amin was spotted roaming beyond the barbed-wire fence on the Putia border. Suspecting him to be a smuggler, BSF personnel opened fire, critically injuring him. Later, BSF rescued him and took him to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital in India, where he succumbed to his injuries later.
Naik Subedar Abu Bakkar, in charge of the Saldanadi camp under BGB's 60th Battalion, said BSF fired a single round of rubber bullets at Al-Amin. He was then taken to a local hospital in India, where he died while undergoing treatment.
However, BSF has not yet returned his body, he said.
Senior officials have been informed, and a flag meeting between the commanding officers of BGB and BSF is scheduled to be held today to determine the next course of action.
