Actors Equity Bangladesh has ushered in new leadership for three years following the latest elections. Azad Abul Kalam emerged victorious with 310 votes, securing the position of president, while Rashed Mamun Apu was elected general secretary with 367 votes.

This year's election saw Azad Abul Kalam contesting for the presidency against Abdullah Rana, and Rashed Mamun Apu vying for the general secretary role against Shahed Sharif Khan.

The election results were announced at 8:30pm yesterday by Naresh Bhuiyan and Faruque Ahmed. Chief Election Commissioner Khairul Alam Shabuj and other commissioners were also present during the announcement.

The newly elected members of the three-year-term committee are Azizul Hakim, Shams Sumon, and Iqbal Babu (Vice Presidents); Rajib Saleheen and Sujat Shimul (Joint General Secretaries); Masud Rana Mithu (Organising Secretary); MA Salam Sumon (Event Secretary); Suchona Sikdar (Legal and Welfare Affairs Secretary); Mukul Siraj (Publicity and Publications Secretary); and RA Rahul (Information and Technology Secretary). Additionally, Muhammad Nur-e-Alam (Finance Secretary) and Masud Alam Tanvir (Office Secretary) were elected unopposed.

The elected executive members include Imran Hossain, Zulfikar Chanchal, Shiuli Akhter, Shipul Syed, Abu Rafa Md Nayeem, Rezaul Raju, and Tuhin Chowdhury.

The Actors Equity Bangladesh election was marked by a star-studded gathering at the National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy yesterday. The venue was lively with actors from various generations, and voting took place from 9am to 5pm, with an afternoon break. In this triennial election, 40 candidates contested for 21 posts, with a total of 699 voters participating.

A palpable curiosity lingered all day over who would win or lose. Artistes saw voting as just the beginning, gathering afterwards to chat and connect. Though turnout was low early on, it rose steadily. Both veteran and young actors took part, turning the day into a cheerful reunion of stars.

The outgoing president of Actors Equity, Ahsan Habib Nasim, and the general secretary, Raonak Hasan, did not run in this election.
