A Dhaka court today sent BNP leader Mokbul Hossain to jail in a case filed over instigating clashes between shopkeepers and Dhaka College students in the capital’s New Market area that left two persons dead and scores others wounded.
Detectives today said that they would soon be able to share information on arrest of suspects in Nahid murder case. Nahid Mia was beaten up and hacked during clashes between Dhaka College students and shopkeepers in New Market area on April 19.
The Dhaka College authorities have formed a three-member probe committee to find out if the students of the college were involved in the recent clashes with traders in Dhaka's New Market area on April 19.
They come wearing helmets, brandishing machetes and sticks; they vandalise, they kill, and then they are gone, even beyond the long arms of the law.
The youths who beat up and hacked 19-year-old Nahid Mia during the New Market clashes on Tuesday have primarily been identified and are now under police surveillance, said multiple sources, including law enforcers.
Another person injured during the clashes between New Market traders and Dhaka College students on April 19, died early today.
Students of Dhaka College started demonstrating this afternoon as New Market area shops were reopened without meeting their demands.
Students of the seven Dhaka University-affiliated colleges today demanded arrest of the attackers within 24 hours and providing treatment cost for those injured during yesterday’s clashes.
